Shape Goes Global: Continuing to Explore the Company’s History

The 2000s were a time of innovation, growth and achievement in Shape’s history. The first global office was opened, the GMT 900 program was started, and Shape won several prestigious awards for its associates’ hard work and dedication to the company.

Shape officially expanded into the global marketplace in 2003 with the opening of the Shape Japan office. Following that came the opening of offices in Mexico (2004), China (2008) and Korea (2008). Shape also expanded into Europe during this time, and began creating new relationships and opportunities.

Not only was Shape expanding its facilities during the 2000s, but its product line as well. In the early 2000s both window sashes and a hybrid bumper beam were developed. In 2005, Shape began doing business for the Chevy suburban under the GMT 900 program, which became Shape’s largest program. In the later part of the decade Shape revolutionized roll forming with the variable swept bumper beam (2007) and the bi-directional swept tube process (2009).

Shape continued to focus on its associates and local community during this time with the start of a corporate intranet called ShapeWeb, the Shape Family Wellness program and volunteering for Adopt-a-Highway. Shape also won the G.W. Haworth Strength of the Community Award for its associates’ generous donation to the Ottawa County United Way.
